Chris hasn't had too many holidays this year, which means we've had to put up with him all the time in the office. We're currently taking a collection to... well, to get rid of him.

As usual, I've been avoiding work, this time in Devon (and only for a week!) but whilst there I was able to sample a few of the different trees and bridges in the area.

I'll start with the bridges as most of my reports are based on them!

To show how welcoming they are to visitors in Totnes, they assembled a magnificent bridge with a welcome message written accross it, as shown below:

The area where we were staying (South Brent) was very picturesque as could be told from the following bridge, as seen from the road:

This was itself over a pretty little stream, but was essential to enable traffic to pass:

the last picture is of the sign on the bridge, showing that whilst it enables people and cars to pass to the top of the beautiful village, it stops large annoying trucks from disturbing the residents. In case you can't read the sign, it says:

"County of Devon
Take note that this bridge (which
is a county bridge) is insufficient to
carry weights beyond the ordinary traffic
of the district and that the owners
drivers and persons in charge of
locomotives are warned against
attempting the passage of the bridge
without the consent of the county
surveyor
by order of the county justices
Clerk of the peace"

So this bridge is very useful!

Moving onto the nearby chairs...

In the house where we were staying there were a variety of chairs, and some very comfortable sofas, such as these in our living room:

We spent many an hour relaxing and enjoying these sofas! In my bedroom, there was this interesting chair, with a triangular front and semi circular back to the seat:

This was actually a very clever design for a chair as it enabled your legs to dangle comfortably over the edge whilst providing the support for the largest of (American) arses to fit on at the back.

The dining room chairs were less comfortable, and I was so unimpressed with them that this photo was taken just before I got so mad I threw custard everywhere:

Outside the house, however, the absense of proper chairs meant that we had to resort to sitting on whatever came to hand:

..and even the edge of a cliff!

Finally, when we cam back through Somerset we went to Wookey Hole near Wells. Here they had made various chairs out of wood in all different shapes, such as this one:
