Once upon a time, Baz Jackson decided that Birmingham Structural Biology Somethingorother would have an away day in Shrewsbury. This was all fine and dandy, until it started to rain...

Turns out, that was well as have having locations in Birmingham and Ironbridge, the University of Birmingham has a stake in the The Gateway Arts and Education Centre in Shrewsbury. So, after a couple of false starts (ie John forgot the memory stick with his presentation on and had to go back home to get it), we arrived in Shrewsbury, ready for a day of exciting talks. We were late of course.

The day before it'd rained a little. Thanks to Wikipedia, I now know that the river that had burst its banks and flooded the town as it drove into it at a little after 10am that Friday morning was the Severn. As you can't really see from the photos, this resulted in many bridges having at least one side having a watery greeting at the end.

This first one was taken from level 6 of the multi-storey carpark. For clarification, it shows some trees, a flooded Shrewsbury, and a bridge in the background (at the top of the reflected light in the river).

This bridge looked really cool when we drove into Shrewsbury, with one end disappearing into the river, unfortunately I never thought about things such as 'it getting dark later', so come 4:30 when we began the journey home and I had my camera out, you couldn't really see much.

This photo was a little more successful, and was taken outside the Gateway Centre.

This video was taken by Chris. It is a bit rubbish. It was supposed to show the flooding.

This video was taken by me. It is far better. It does show the flooding. Kind of. It definitely shows the railing of the bridge.

Obviously in the case of both videos we completely forgot the camera had a microphone.

And finally, for no particular reason, here is a shot of the back of John's landrover:
