Ok, so whilst I didn't get the 'big' prize and I didn't get to use my resignation speech, I was nominated for Best Banner, Best something else, and won Best Gimmick. The certificate for which I shall reproduce here as soon as I remember where I've put the thing. It looks a bit like this:

...there's probably a date and someone important(?) has signed it and things. But the above is basically right. (edit: actually, it looks a lot more like this, which is similar, but different).

The chair went along, of course, and he got to dress up in his finest (why is it that putting a chair in a tux is far easier than putting a giant robot in one?). He also had his photo taken with just about everyone in the building.

106 votes in total, which isn't bad really considering the lack of campaigning and the fact that virtually everyone was completely confused as to how the votes were added up. And I got a small mention in Redbrick (#1269) the following week:

The race for President was also a hard fought battle between the four candidates. Damien Johnson received 106 votes for his unusual campaign.

To say I wasn't impressed to find that they'd spelt my name wrong after it appearing in the newspaper for the previous two weeks on my manifesto, on the ballot paper, and on a load of posters, is an understatement. But then they did send me a nice apology and you can't help but love that nice bearded guy from Redbrick so I soon forgave.

So what did I accomplish during the two weeks? Most importantly, the profile of Chair Club was raised to all new levels amongst the student population. Secondly, I have a load of stuff I can waffle about on job application forms. And finally, I got to entertain/annoy a load of people for a couple of weeks. Oh, and I got to lose over 20 quid because they never refunded my expenses.

For those who care, the full results for the elections can be found here.
