Comic Con exclusives are hated by me with a passion. Why? Because I can never get hold of the things unless I want to pay stupidly inflated prices on evilbay. So how did I end up with this pair? Ah, that's the beauty of having a relative being in the right place at the right time. That, and it being 10 years ago when toy buying was not such a cut-throat business. Captain Chair was popular in 1995. So popular that the decision was made to produce this two-pack for the various comic cons in the US. Basically, as things things often are, they're just repaints of the regular line Captain Chair and Bridge Boy, but this gives them their 80s costumes!
Captain Chair is both a homage to his 80s comic costume and the 80s mail-away figure. I'm not convinced about the black wash given to the figures (to make them 'dark and gritty' like the comic), but I can live with it. Not a lot to say about Captain Chair really because the main reason to buy this set was for...
Bridge Boy II! The first ever (and only) figure to be released of Bridge Boy II. Him looking exactly the same as the regular BB figure makes perfect sense, what with being a clone and everything. I've had it commented that BBII looks a bit weedy compared to BB which we put down to a) the cape bulking BB up and b) the lack of paint on the arms. Again, another black wash which is kind of meh, don't like it too much but then a brightly coloured figure would just have looked wrong. As to the box... Obviously I don't have it. Toys are meant for playing with! Boxes are meant for the bin! I'm told it was quite pretty though, but I really don't have a clue as I really can't remember. |
