10 years (ish) after the first line first appeared, Captain Chair toys were back! By this time the action figure market was well established and much more crowded, therefore a little more effort was needed in creating the toys so that they could compete. Having a really cool cartoon could only help matters. Captain Chair Here we have the basic Captain Chair figure from the line. He was a bit grubby when I got him, but after a quick bath he's almost as good as new. His karate-chop action works perfectly, minimal paint-chipping, his two knives (which are often missing), and most importantly of all he's got his trusty pollaxe! The scult is pretty good and is able to stand up with no problems (which as all toy fans know, is always the real test for a figure). The paint job is adequate (he's not really that shiny - he's just caught the flash off the camera), but pretty basic as you'd probably expect from a guy who only wears 2 colours. Still, a nice figure and he sits happily on my shelf.
Bridge Boy
Who does Captain Chair need to help fight the forces of darkness? Bridge Boy, of course! And here is the figure that helped out the Captain every week in the cartoon. He's got his cape and his prongy sword thing, and his right fist does some slightly dodgy-looking twisty action.
Dr SabbathBit of a dramatic change from the 80s figure. As many of you will know, Sabbath's origin was changed a lot for the cartoon in an attempt to make him seem a little more dangerous. I'll keep my personal opinions on this change quite, and concentrate on the figure itself.
Firstly, removable helmet! YEAY! Everyone loves a figure with a removable helmet and for that reason alone he was a must-buy. He also comes with a nifty cape and a karate-chop action. Note: in reality the cape is a lot more purple than it appears here. I took billions of photos but it came out blue on all of them.
Also released with the line was a Comic Con two-pack discussed here. |
