The 90s
The Clone Saga
One Bridge Boy isn't enough for some people, so in 1990 another one showed up. This one claimed to be the original Bridge Boy who hadn't died, as thought, by being minced by a boat propellor, but had instead been in a cocoon in the North Pacific for the past 50 years.
In what has been universally decided to be the worst story arc in the history of Captain Chair, it turned out that Bridge Boy I was in fact a clone of Bridge Boy II. This created a huge outcry from the fans as, despite being gone for longer than most of the current readers had been alive, Bridge Boy I had been often seen in flashbacks to WWII and was thus a character to close to their hearts (that, and also because comic fans are a strange bunch who get upset whenever anyone tries to do something new with a comic).
It came as little shock then, when Inferno Comics (the new name for Spark) turned the plot on its head and made Bridge Boy II the clone and Bridge Boy I the original. Then, in a desperate effort to please the fans they'd just annoyed, they killed off Bridge Boy II in a rather messy encounter with a werewolf - but not before transferring his powers to Bridge Boy I (because everyone agreed that despite Bridge Boy II's character sucking, his powers were pretty cool).
Bridge Quest
In what was probably an attempt to make people try and forget the Clone Saga, the next 'big' Captain Chair story was rushed into production months later. Luckily this arc proved to be pretty damn good (and, saying goodbye to the 'gritty' 80s, saw some colour return to the book)
It began with Dr. Sabbath (the 'Mr' had been changed for sounding a bit crap) travelling back in time and killing Bridge Boy (I) in 1943 - thus making him unable to help Captain Chair defeat Hitler 2 years later. Hitler was instead killed by Dr. Sabbath who took control of the Nazi empire and turned his attention to taking over the world...
