The Aztecs

Captain Chair's comic adventures began back in the early 1920s in Spark Comics. He was originally created several years earlier as a way as a character for the younger members of Chair Club to look up to and teach them of the origins of Chair Club, but was noticed by the editor of Spark and developed into a fortnightly comic series in the UK.

In this early years, due to the strict licensing rights laid down by Chair Club, Captain Chair was deeply rooted in his Aztecian past and spent most of his time spreading word of chairs and bridges about the tribes of South America. The writers were severly limited as to what they could write and each issue had to be approved by Chair Club before publication. This lead on numerous occasions to the comic being delayed, and some furious writers/artists at Spark when fully completed issues were rejected by Chair Club and therefore had to be pulped.

Despite some classic adventures ('Captain Chair and the Amazon Beast' is regarded as one of the best Captain stories ever), the comic ceased in 1926 after only 3 years of production due to falling sales and increasing animosity between Chair Club and Spark Comics..
