The word that best sums up the 'New' Captain Chair stories of the early 21st century is 'surreal'. For the first time Captain Chair ventured into outer space and fought for the defense of the chairs of various alien races. There were stories which took place entirely within Captain Chair's body, one which didn't even feature Captain Chair at all, and one where Captain Chair did a 'New Nightmare', came into the 'real' world, and got to meet the writer of the comic. The highlight of the 'New Captain Chair' run was the return of Dr. Sabbath. Thought wiped out of existence after the end of CHOAS, Dr. Sabbath appears to have as many lives as Bridge Boy. For the previous 3 years Captain had been accompanied by a person calling himself 'Htabbas'. But, shock!, Htabbas turned out to be Dr. Sabbath who then destroyed every chair in New York (an attempt to boost sales in the US...and possibly the writer wanting the month off - 'This week, Mr Artist, Sabbath destroys lots of chairs and bridges. Go draw that. No, I think it's much more emotionally effective without any words in the issue'). After a climatic battle Sabbath was killed by falling onto a steel girder that was being used in the construction of a new bridge in North Dakota.
